Ihre Werke erz\u00e4hlen von Verzweiflung und Angst \u2013 aber auch von Hoffnung, tiefer Menschlichkeit und Durchhaltewillen. Kein Selbstmitleid. Keine Anklage. class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u201eWe are scared.\u201c<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sagt die lettische Fremdenf\u00fchrerin, keine 30 Jahre alt.<br>\u201eIf Ukraine falls, we will be the next to get invaded by the crazy neighbours.\u201c<br>Eine junge Nation spricht. Lettland hat bisher nur zwei Mal einen unabh\u00e4ngigen Staat erlebt \u2013 der heutige ist mit seinen 35 Jahren der \u00e4lteste.<br>\u201eWill you be my love, among the fields of barley?\u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Die russische Community<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Etwa 50\u202f% der Bev\u00f6lkerung Rigas sind russischer Abstammung. Einige sprechen ausschliesslich Russisch. Auch hier, wie in Litauen, wurde der Russisch-Unterricht in Schulen abgeschafft. Zu gross ist die Sorge vor parallelen Wirklichkeiten \u2013 gespeist durch Desinformation und Propaganda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Es brauche mehr Zusammenhalt, mehr gemeinsames Verst\u00e4ndnis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ein Aushang vor dem russischen Theater bringt es auf den Punkt:<br><strong>\u201eWe are not a Theater of Russia. We are a Russian theatre.\u201c<\/strong><br>Ein Ausdruck kultureller Identit\u00e4t, unabh\u00e4ngig von Nationalit\u00e4t oder Politik. Und weiter: &#171;We ask everyone not to fan the flames of suspicion, enmity and hatred in our common home &#8211; Latvia! Our theatre continues to work and talk about the most important things &#8211; about the values that unite people&#187;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ein Thema, von dem die jungen baltischen Staaten ein Lied singen k\u00f6nnen \u2013 ihre Sprache und Kultur haben lange nur im Verborgenen \u00fcberlebt. Heute aber, so mein Eindruck, erstrahlen sie: mit Stolz, R\u00fcckgrat, Selbstbewusstsein.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Etwas, das wir in der Schweiz auf eigene Weise meistern. Auch wir handeln unsere Identit\u00e4t st\u00e4ndig neu aus. Oft werde ich gefragt, was die Schweiz ausmacht. Ich antworte dann: Eine Willensnation. Eine Kultur, die Verantwortung so weit wie m\u00f6glich dezentralisiert, und somit jeden in die Pflicht nimmt. Ein Paradies in vielerlei Hinsicht \u2013 Infrastruktur, Bildung, Natur, Sicherheit.<br>Und gleichzeitig schwingt mit:&nbsp;<em>Mind your own business.<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Etiketten sind fehl am Platz<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Da ist der vermutlich asiatisch-st\u00e4mmige Kalifornier, der fassungslos den Kopf sch\u00fcttelt, weil Trump weissen S\u00fcdafrikanern Schutz in den USA gew\u00e4hren will. \u00dcberhaupt sind die Amerikanischen Touristen maximal weit entfernt von &#171;Make America Great Again&#187;. Themen wie diese diskutieren sie bestenfalls nach ein paar Gl\u00e4sern Alkohol, wie sie gleich vorsorglich anbringen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Oder der Australier, dessen Eltern Letten, die Grosseltern Russen waren \u2013 und der f\u00fcnf Sprachen spricht: Spanisch, Franz\u00f6sisch, Englisch, Deutsch und Russisch. Er setzt sich daf\u00fcr ein, dass man differenziert: Nicht alle Russen sind gleich.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Grosse Taten \u2013 von \u201ekleinen\u201c Menschen<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201eI never made promises lightly\u201c<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 vielleicht haben genau das viele gedacht, die Juden, Katholiken, Intellektuelle oder andere Verfolgte versteckten und ihnen halfen. Trotz Risiko und Angst.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201eBorn to be free\u201c<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 der Name des Fuchses, Symbol einer NGO, nein: Symbol von Menschen, die sich f\u00fcr ein Pelztierverbot starkgemacht hat. Zehn Jahre dauerte es, bis das lettische Parlament das entsprechende Gesetz verabschiedete. <strong>\u201eWe have built this monument with our own hands\u201c<\/strong>, erz\u00e4hlt eine Frau stolz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Free Shop<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 im Mockava-Quartier, einst selbst unter Einheimischen als gef\u00e4hrlich verschrien. Heute ein Ort der Hoffnung und der Menschlichkeit. Wir, frierend und nass, werden als privilegierte Touristen mit heissem Tee versorgt. Gleich daneben: ein Denkmal f\u00fcr die untergegangene j\u00fcdische Gemeinschaft \u2013 fallende S\u00e4ulen als Symbol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Und ein weiterer Name:&nbsp;<strong>Janis Lipke<\/strong>. Kein Oskar Schindler, wie ihn Hollywood kennt. Sondern ein einfacher Mechaniker. Kleinkrimineller. Schmuggler. Ein Mann, der seine F\u00e4higkeiten nutzte, um mehr als 60 Menschen aus dem j\u00fcdischen Ghetto zu retten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201eThe righteous among the nations\u201c<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 diesem Ausdruck begegne ich immer wieder. Er bezeichnet jene, die halfen, als andere wegsahen.<br>Wohl oft nicht aus Egoismus \u2013 sondern aus Angst um das eigene Leben, die Familie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Aber es gab sie. Menschen, die sich im Alltag f\u00fcr Menschlichkeit entschieden.<br>Und genau das ist es, was der jungen Generation in Polen, Litauen, Lettland wichtig ist.<br>Sie glauben daran, dass jeder einen Unterschied machen kann. keine Diskussion wollte \u2013 oder stillschweigend die Regeln akzeptierte, da ich keine &#171;Macht&#187; habe sie zu \u00e4ndern?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Was mache ich mit dem Privileg, in der Schweiz geboren zu sein \u2013 mit Zugang zu Wissen, Geld, Demokratie?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">F\u00fcr wen \u2013 oder was \u2013 bin&nbsp;<em>ich<\/em>&nbsp;ein \u201eSafe Place\u201c?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Vielleicht verbinde ich mich gerade mit meiner zur H\u00e4lfte deutschen Wurzeln, die laut DNA-Test alles sind \u2013 nur nicht \u201egermanisch\u201c.<br>Das einzig Germanische in mir? Kommt aus Nidwalden. Daf\u00fcr aber \u00fcber Generationen hinweg \ud83d\ude0a<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Vielleicht ist der \u201eSafe Place\u201c kein Ort, sondern eine Haltung<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ein sicherer Ort.<br>Einer, der sich aus St\u00e4rke heraus \u00f6ffnet. Der nicht wegschaut. Der eine helfende Hand reicht.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ein Raum f\u00fcr unterschiedliche Ansichten \u2013 und f\u00fcr das, was uns verbindet.<br>Ein Ort, an dem wir uns auf unser Menschsein besinnen.
